How to Open MDI Files An MDI file, which stands forMicrosoft Document Imaging, is a proprietary Microsoft image format used for storing images of scanned documents created by the Microsoft Office Document Imaging (MODI) program. The program was included with Office XP, Office 2003 and Office 2007. It was discontinued in Office 2010 and above. It has basically been replaced by the Windows Fax and Scan service.
